[ I'm assuming, at some point, Souji will be headed for the kitchen. But on the way he will find a friend in the way of his path!!! It looks up at him curiously, long ears tilting.
[This is a very good assumption because as soon as they're done playing whacky rodeo cowboys with the phone wires, he's heading over to start working on a meal for everyone...
Though of course he's distracted by this absolute unit of a friend hello!! Saizo, who'd been trotting along behind him, immediately goes on the alert. Souji, on the other hand, being a dingus, is just like "NOOOOOO CUTE" about it as he crouches down to greet it.]
[Saizo doesn't seem to know what to make of this simple carbuncle, scooting away from its curious sniffing and narrowing his big ol' piggy eyes in suspicion.]
Ah, be nice, Saizo! They just want to make friends.
[SO HE ASSUMES. Saizo will cautiously inch forward, though...]
Bacon? Just kidding, carbuncles are just magical constructs who don't need to eat anyway. But it still makes another step forward, sniffing ever so curiously... Before it squeaks, completely losing interest, and pads back off toward the kitchen. ]
[Saizo seems very hilariously offended by this, prompting Souji to pick him up again and pat his little piggy noggin.]
There, there! Don't look so glum. You've made plenty of friends so far, haven't you?
[He's still curious about this CREATURE THOUGH, so he's absolutely going to start shuffling along after it. Especially if it's heading into the kitchen, considering they probably have things that. These. Weird creatures shouldn't?? Eat???? He's guessing????]
[ Everyone's concerns about a magic rock's dietary needs is so touching...
Said rock casually makes its way in, where it easily strolls up to a pair of feet belonging to... Alphinaud! Who appears to be putting a kettle over the stove. ]
Oh, those are some elf feet, though. Souji blinks, but soon continues trottin' on over, in good spirits as he always is when in the company of another.]
[ Evidently, Alphinaud was not focused on his surroundings. Gently, he starts in place, eyes darting from the kettle to Souji, and then back down to the carbuncle, who gives an idle little chirp. ]
Oh... Oh, yes. Pardon me, I had not noticed you came in. My thoughts were clearly elsewhere.
Excellent. I shall do my best to make it to your liking, then. I confess I am not the best at this...
[ Sometimes you've spent most of your life with servants. ]
... Ah, this? [ Alphinaud gives the carbuncle another brief glance; the critter in question does little more than watch Saizo, its three tails gently swishing behind it. ] You may call it Moonstone. 'Tis no proper name, but I... never considered naming my carbuncles upon creating them.
[It's only because Alphinaud seems very soft and was very torn up about being dead that Souji resists the urge to make a terrible "NO WORRIES EVEN IF YOUR TEA WAS POISONOUSLY BAD I'D BE FINE" joke.]
Don't worry! I'm not very picky, and tea that's brewed with heart always tastes wonderful.
[Friendship flavored tea?? He gives Moonstone The Carbuncle™ a curious little look at that, though.]
Oh? Is Moonstone not an animal, then? It looks so very much like one!
[Or maybe it is an animal and Alphinaud has god-like creation powers, he doesn't know an elf's life.]
[ You cracked the case, this elf is actually god. ]
Looks like one, and acts very much like one, as well.
[ Carby, meanwhile, is vibing. ]
'Tis no true animal, however—this carbuncle is a familiar of mine own creation. They are quite common among arcanists whence I hail, and are conjured forth from the likes of gemstones.
Oh, my... We don't have anything at all like that where I come from, though it sounds a little like tsukumogami? Those are spirits that form on their own, though - like the swords.
[SWEET TSURUMARU. SWEET MIKAZUKI. He's never met either of them but he holds them so dearly simply as a sword otaku. As this sweet creature vibes, Saizo's giving it a sussy piggy stare.]
Do they, ah... have a purpose? Goodness, that seems so unkind to say. Or are they companions?
[ just because xiv has Fantasy Japan doesn't mean he's any good at japanese, unfortunately ]
Mikazuki thought similarly, if you'd believe it—perhaps that means there are some similarities after all... However, such gemstones do not come to life on their own, but rather, an arcanist would need to imbue the stone with their own aether in order to pull forth the life from within.
They do serve a purpose, however. Though some may view their carbuncles as companions, I have created mine to assist me in battle.
[It's a trade-off of equal measure since Souji butchers every single non-Japanese name he comes across... There's a little hint of amusement in his expression at that, though.]
Oh? It's good to know that I might not be far off, then. [From putting on his Sword Thinking Cap and actually being pretty accurate. Hilarious.]
It sounds like quite an impressive feat, all the same! They do look like they would make very good companions. [A sage nod.] But all the better to have a companion that can watch your back in battle. Ah - what sort of warrior are you, then?
I believe warrior is something of a strong word, here... I would prefer not to fight, should it be unnecessary. However, I am a mage, and 'tis my magicks that I wield when I have no other choice.
Ah! I see. [Not a warrior, boo... No just kidding Souji supports the squishy magicians of the group.] I met one or two people like that back at the castle. We don't have anything like that in my own world, so it was always an interesting thing to talk about...
I can imagine so! But yes, we have nothing like that, really... The closest thing that I can think of is Saitou-san's vision. He's very attuned to the presence of spirits, and can read the record of death.
[HIS DEATH NOTE EYES. They actually have so much weird shit even besides this... There's a cannibal who has a bear sidekick?? His pig has human levels of intelligence??? A small hobgoblin stole his face when he was a child???? These things are just simply never addressed, it's fine.]
[Spirits.......... Souji just huffs out a little laugh at that, though.]
Oh... Most likely, yes! My time is quite before many of these advancements, but I've learned a lot about them. Things like electricity and cars and the like.

Are you making tea? Do you mind if I join you?

[ He gives a light gesture. ]
I've only just begun to boil the water. Do you have a preference in teas? If not, I was thinking about hazelnut.

[He'll move to lean up against a different part of the counter while talking, so he's not crowding poor Alphinaud as he works.]
