[ You know what? It's art room time, so here we are back in the good ol' prism.

Later in the day, Alphinaud can be found seated in the studio, a drawing pad settled upon his lap. He seems to be a little lost in thought as he taps the end of a charcoal stick upon the paper. ]

[dms]

[ well since this is sunday, alphi might have noticed that there is at least one fresh but unfinished painting set out in the art room, this one of a beach at nighttime.

kazu pauses when he enters, a little surprised at seeing alphi here, but he smiles. ]

So you're not just a patron of the arts, but an artist yourself? You should have told me, Alphi!

[sageguidance]

—Hm? Oh!

[ Alphinaud looks up, surprised. ]

'Tis but a way to pass the time here and there. I would hesitate to call myself an artist.

[dms]

All you have to do to be an artist is create something. Looks like you're doing just fine as far as that goes!

[ don't mind him as he picks out some paints and brushes from the supplies! ]

So? Whatcha drawing?

[sageguidance]

[ he watches kazu a bit, as he speaks ]

Well... I thought to make something up as I go along, but I appear to have gotten too lost in thought.

[ There's the beginnings of a rough sketch, but it's hard to make out exactly what it's supposed to be, yet. ]

[dms]

[ a slow nod. sometimes it be like that. ]

Executions have a tendency to do that, huh? Maybe you just need some help getting out of your head? [ he tosses a tube of paint over to alphi. ] What do you say we paint something together, then?

[sageguidance]

[ He fumbles a little, but catches! ]

Hm... Yes, mayhap that is what I need. What would you like to paint?

[dms]

Doesn't matter. Just paint what you feel like! Doing abstracts isn't bad, once in a while.

[ he's pulling out a fresh canvas now! ]

Here. A new canvas so we don't have to worry about messing anything else up. I think I'm going to start with a nice green - what are you thinking?

[sageguidance]

[ He stands up from his spot, looking over the canvas. ]

No harm in starting with what typically works well together—how about some blues, then?

[dms]

I've got plenty of blues here! Take your pick.

[ meanwhile, he'll squeeze out some green onto a palette and take out a wide brush and just... sweep a few strokes over the canvas. ]

[sageguidance]

[ he thinks, then: ]

Here.

[ he takes a fan brush, dips it into slate blue, and lightly dabs the brush over the green ]

[dms]

There we go! I like the color, too!

Maybe we should add a little bit of purple, too... [ with a new, smaller brush, he'll dip into a deep mauve and paint a wide triangle on the canvas. ] What do you think?

[sageguidance]

I think it rather nonsensical.

[ but he chuckles ]

I feel not unlike a child dipping into their very first paints.

[dms]

Nothing wrong with that! You should have seen the mess me and the rest of Summer made while I was stuck on this one assignment. The colors were all over the place, and none of it made sense at all!

But I think it's good to do abstracts sometimes. It helps get you out of your head and away from trying to be totally perfect.

[sageguidance]

I... suppose so. Typically, I would think it a waste of a good canvas, but that would hardly matter much here.

[dms]

Well, if that's all you're worried about, think of it this way: we're putting down a base layer of color, like an underpainting. Later, once this is all over, we can always come back and make a full, more detailed painting of it. These colors would be great for a waterscape, you know? It could be something like a beach, or a dock! Oh, or even a view from on board a ship!
